Mid-level Engineer

Location: Egg Harbor City, NJ

Duration: long team


Essential Job Functions:

  • Superior proficiency and knowledge of the NAS system hardware and software, knowledge of FAA procedural requirements, real-time design and development, testing and interface of software and computer hardware systems, regression impact analysis, reliability, maintainability, human factors, standardization and other software regarding FAA missions and NAS systems.
  • Using prescribed methods and information furnished, develops draft inputs to program documentation as it relates to any of the support functions.
  • Performs assignments on a broad range of tasks associated with the implementation of standards techniques, procedures, and criteria as they apply to technical tasks.
  • Develop new technology, modify the structure of existing software products, and provide technical guidance to complex projects.
  • Review final draft documents for conformity to requirements and completeness.
  • Track preparation and delivery status of required deliverables.
  • Attend and may lead meetings, design/code reviews, working groups and briefings. Reports issues and problems and recommends solutions. Other Job Functions:
  • Provides expertise in a specific technical area defined by the government that is not readily available in the other defined categories and is pertinent to Technical Operations maintenance of NAS.
  • Seven (7) years experiences in complex systems, including:
  • Test and Evaluation policies and methods, including test plan, test procedure and test report development, and test execution.
  • Experience (such as planning, design, development, acquisition, installation, integration and/or implementation) with complex communication systems that accommodate specific user requirements.
  • Hands on test bed experience such as test bed establishment (including the physical, interface and installation requirements), test bed maintenance or test bed operations.
  • Requirements development, analysis and verification.

The FAA Terminal environment, such as:

               (1) Hands-on experience with systems such as (TFDM) Terminal Flight Data Management experience

(2) Terminal lab / test bed configuration, bring up and troubleshooting

(3) Data Network Management and Analysis support


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communications, systems safety, quality assurance, test and evaluation, systems security, and configuration and data information systems.
  • Programming Languages: C/C++ Microsoft Windows, Excel Spreadsheet & UNIX.
  • Operating Systems: Unix, LINUX, Solaris, CISCO, IOS, SNMP.
  • Applications: Microsoft Suite
  • Experience in object-oriented design and development with the C++ and/or Java programming language.
  • GUI development experience for the X windows environment.

Experience Desired:

  • Surface Collaborative Decision making (SCDM), departure scheduler and other airport decision tools.
  • Electronic Flight Data (EFD).
  • Enhanced Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Traffic Flow Management System (TFMS).
  • Replacement or integration of multiple systems in the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • GUI development experience for the X windows environment.

Skills Desired:

  • Experience developing graphical user interfaces using Qt.
  • Development experience in other computer languages (C, Ada, Perl, etc.).
  • FAA air traffic domain knowledge.


  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering with seven (7) years of related work experience in the specific engineering principle OR

Master’s Degree in Engineering with five (5) years related work experience in the specific engineering principle
